`Ukraine’s Patriot complexes guarantee a 100% interception rate against any type of Russian missile. With military successes and Patriot complexes, we will continue to respond to Russia and all its manifestations.`
President Zelensky’s comments came after a series of attacks by Russian drones (UAVs) and missiles on targets in the capital Kiev and a number of other Ukrainian cities.
Ukraine’s air defense forces announced the destruction of 67 out of 75 `air targets` launched at the capital Kiev on the night of May 28 and early morning of May 29.
Just a few hours later, Kiev continued to suffer an unusual attack during the day.
Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian air force, said that Patriot systems have been effectively deployed to intercept Russian Iskander missiles.
At dawn this morning, May 30, sirens continued to sound in the capital Kiev and some other areas of Ukraine.
Patriot is a multi-purpose long-range air defense missile system, with a range of 70-160km, capable of operating in all weather conditions with a target flight ceiling of up to 24km.
Patriot’s radar is one of the most important components, as it can detect and track more than 100 targets and has a range of more than 100km.
According to the US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Patriot’s radar system combines modern surveillance and tracking functions, making it stand out from other air defense complexes.
Ukraine currently owns Patriot complexes transferred by the US and aided by Germany and the Netherlands.
